Barbados / Sandy Lane

As featured in Luxury Travel: All-time Favourites

One of our handpicked hotel recommendations for 2017

An iconic hotel for over fifty years and consistently ranked as the best place to stay in Barbados, this luxurious resort offers serene comfort in a chic beachfront setting – Sandy Lane, Barbados. Somewhat of a Bajan institution, a classical Palladian-style interior exudes elegance, whilst attentive staff ensure exemplary service comes as standard throughout your stay. No detail is overlooked; GPS-installed golf buggies make navigating the acclaimed golf courses easy, whilst every guest is allocated their own spot on the beach. The indulgently luxurious hotel is spread between four different wings, offering either an ocean or garden view. Guests can choose between oversized rooms with terraces that double as alfresco living areas and residential-style suites, all boasting every modern amenity as well as valet service. For unbridled luxury, The Villa at Sandy Lane boasts five en-suite bedrooms, a private courtyard, pool, Jacuzzi and dedicated staff to cater exclusively to you, making it one of the most exclusive villas in Barbados. The signature restaurant l'Acajou features a range of light, gourmet dishes, served under a canopy of mahogany trees gently swaying in the sea breeze, whilst relaxed all-day dining is offered at beachfront Bajan Blue; take your pick from an eclectic menu of Caribbean, European and Asian influenced cuisine or feast on Sunday Brunch. Equally impressive is the range of recreational facilities. The Spa at Sandy Lane is another world entirely, offering an irresistible array of treatments, including an inviting hydrotherapy zone with experience showers, panoramic sauna and a Rhassoul. A grand swimming pool with an underwater sound system, tennis courts, The Treehouse Club for children and three acclaimed golf courses all vie with the crescent-shaped beach for your attention. Your luxury golfing holiday

Sandy Lane benefits from some of the finest golf courses in the world, including The Old Nine and The Country Club courses. Perhaps the most famous of all is The Green Monkey - an ultra-exclusive 72 par, 7343-yard golf course designed by Tom Fazio. After practising your swing, replenish your energy with a relaxed lunch at The Country Club Restaurant at the Clubhouse, which overlooks the undulating hills of the golf courses and azure waters of the Caribbean. It's no wonder that Sandy Lane won the Best Resort of The Americas 2016 for the Golf Digest Editors' Choice Award.

Summer Sports Camp at Sandy Lane

Fun and social, the Summer Sports Camp for children aged 7-16 is running between a number of different date bands for 2017: 27 May – 03 June, 22 – 29 July and 19 – 26 August and 18 – 25 November. A wide range of activities are on offer, including golf, water-skiing, tennis, 5-a-side soccer and beach volleyball, with mocktail parties and movie nights for teenagers finishing off the entertainment. Dine at Café Gianluca

The local knowledge of the team at Sandy Lane is incomparable; get to know them and you’ll discover some of the best places to dine and explore in Barbados – or simply how to make the most of your time at the hotel. A firm favourite with guests in the know, Café Gianluca in Bridgetown is tucked away inside the Timothy Oulton Gallery and offers a mouth-watering Italian menu. When arriving back at the hotel, make sure to ask for The Black Diamond – a tantalising cocktail mixed with cherry brandy and pomegranate liqueur, topped with champagne and fresh blueberries.

Cheer for the Sandy Lane Gold Cup

In late February or early March every year, the Barbados Gold Cup (or Sandy Lane Gold Cup as it’s known for its sponsor) takes place at the Garrison Savannah Racetrack in Bridgetown. Recognised as one of the most significant horse racing events in Barbados, it’s worth the visit for the atmosphere alone.

November - April

Characterised by warm, generally dry days, visitors can fully enjoy the sweet, slow rhythm of Barbadian life during the peak months between January and April. Although prices are at their highest, tourists are guaranteed sun kissed days, which is perfect for making the most of the water sports and attractions to discover.
