News / Nature's playground... Niyama Private Islands

One of the first journalists to experience the new second island, Carrier sent Condé Nast Traveller's Deputy Editor, Issy Von Simpson to Niyama Private Islands. Read her review below...

ISSY VON SIMPSON started her career at Condé Nast ten years ago working on the supplements, she also wrote and edited the Tatler Schools Guide. But travel was her calling and, after two stints of maternity cover as Tatler's Travel Editor, she is now Deputy Editor at Condé Nast Traveller.

"It might seem ludicrous to take a seven-month-old baby half way round the world to a tropical hotspot, but the chance to be the first journalist to see the latest excitements at Niyama was persuasion enough. The setting is a sensation, a postcard perfect vision of icing sugar sand, the palest blue warm water and rustling palm trees, and there's now a freshly opened second island, called Play, which marks the resort's dedicated immersion into family friendliness. There, wonderfully smart family villas join the bright and breezy Blu restaurant and children's pool. But for all the gloriousness of the hotel itself, it's the staff that made my stay so relaxing. All of them are outrageously welcoming and ever adoring of the younger guests. Little ones from just 12 months can hang out in the fantastic new all singing, all dancing kids club and for even tinier nippers like mine, there are babysitters on tap. Which meant I could actually swim, snorkel, spa, sunbathe and sleep, making the three flights it took to get here more than worthwhile."
