Mindful of its pristine forest surroundings and eco-responsible in all its activities, Semliki Safari Lodge stands in an area famed for its hot springs and geysers which can be reached via a short walking trail. Water shoots out at over 100 degrees centigrade from openings in a low salt landscape. Accommodating a maximum of eighteen guests, the lodge comprises tented rooms boasting large four-poster beds, plush en suite bathrooms and design touches such as hand-woven Persian carpets, with a chance to cool off in the swimming pool. In addition to prolific birdlife, expect to see elephant, lion, buffalo and warthog, with sightings of leopard regularly reported. Boat trips provide a different perspective on the local wildlife, while chimp trekking is a lodge speciality due to its involvement in helping to launch the Semliki Chimpanzee Research Project.
Gorilla tracking takes place year round – early booking is essential as permits are strictly limited. The climate is pleasantly tropical due to the high altitude and the temperature varies little year round. The rainier months are generally between March to May and mid September to November.
