Spacious, swish and full of light, the lodge is perched above a private watering hole where a plethora of animals congregate each day. As no structure in the lodge overlooks any other, views are uninterrupted from each suite or viewing deck, and the inclusion of a private plunge pool with each family suite helps make for a perfect stay. Like the other lodges in the &Beyond Phinda collection, this is a magnificent base for Big 5 safaris and also for spotting cheetah – reintroduced to the area after an absence of over fifty years. Join pulse-raising game drives that reveal the territory’s wildlife after nightfall, take a guided bush walk and sleep out under the endless stars. Kids will entertained non-stop by the WILDchild program of activities which range from tracking and fishing to African beading, crafting and painting, with an assignment for the following day’s expedition laid out on the pillow to fill their dreams with anticipation.
A year round destination, but expect cooler weather in the Eastern and Western Capes during winter, between June and August. Mpumalanga stays warm year round with temperatures, humidity and rainfall all increasing in the summer months between October and March. The whales return to the waters around Hermanus from July to November, and the spring months of August and September are particularly colourful along the Garden Route. The prime time for game viewing is generally the drier winter and spring months from April to September when animals frequent the waterholes. During the wetter summer months between October and March, animals can still be viewed but are more widely dispersed – from December to February there may be more sightings of newborn animals.
