Hidden away in the remoteness of the Liuwa Plain lies a camp that captures the very essence of privacy and seclusion. Named after the Barotse King who first proclaimed Liuwa a protected area in the 1880’s, the camp boasts designer touches by architects Silvio Rech and Lesley Carstens, its six luxurious villas set on raised platforms to maximize the views. Furnishings employ leather, cotton and canvas in a homage to the golden days of safariing, the spacious living areas complemented by indoor and outdoor showers, and decks overlooking the wildlife-rich plains. Guests can choose to sleep out under the stars and enjoy dining alfresco beneath the vast African skies to the sounds of whooping hyenas and roaring lions. Cheetah numbers are recovering in the area, adding to the spectacle of abundant zebra, red lechwe and the second largest wildebeest migration in Africa. Join guided walks and game drives during which you are unlikely to see another vehicle, with boating and canoeing available when water levels permit.
