Luxury Travel: All-time Favourites

Sasha Slater, Head of Magazines at the Telegraph; and Contributing Editor to Harper’s Bazaar and Town & Country

There are plenty of islands around the globe that offer white sand and turquoise seas – even the Outer Hebrides if you are lucky with the weather. But the Seychelles are special for much more than the softness of the archipelago’s deserted beaches and the indigo splendour of its ocean. There are the granite boulders that dot the shore and give each island its soaring silhouette. There are the equally monumental giant tortoises that plod the dirt tracks on the smaller islands. There’s the angular beauty of the white-tailed tropicbird as it scythes through the darkening sky at sunset. But most importantly, there’s the welcoming charm of the islanders as they welcome you to their paradise on earth.

Delicately scattered on the Indian Ocean, the shimmering Seychelles sparkle with sapphire seas, soft white beaches, coconut palms and lush green forests. Explore the original Garden of Eden on your luxury Seychelles holiday with Carrier – discover an array of 5 star hotels, resorts and villas that will leave you feeling like you have reached a paradisiacal haven. Thousands of miles from anywhere, the beachcomber islands of the Seychelles rank amongst the world’s most aesthetically pleasing. Mahé is the largest, peppered with unique plants and exquisite beaches such as Beau Vallon. Its capital, Victoria, buzzes with activity and a cosmopolitan chatter in the lively markets where exotic spices and colourful fruit abound. Luxuriant catamarans ply the route to Praslin across crystalline waters to this slow paced utopia. Here you will discover Anse Lazio – one of the most breathtaking beaches on the Indian Ocean. La Digue is characterised by its relaxed vibes – there is noticeably a lack of motorised vehicles on this island, with a special appreciation of natural beauty – perfect if you want a secluded beach holiday to escape the hype of everyday life. Throughout the Seychelles, nature abounds; spectacular giant tortoise nest on tranquil beaches, unique birds such as the Seychelles bulbul, fruit pigeon and black parrot speckle the sky whilst tropical waterfalls and indigenous coco de mer dot the landscape. Snorkel in warm shallow waters, an underwater kaleidoscope of colour, and unwind on idyllic beaches – fine grained sand curls between the toes, the ideal spot for an alfresco dinner. The cuisine is as much a fusion as the culture; Seychellois charm blends the best of Africa, Asian and European influences. The expressive chorus of crickets creates a rhythmical soundtrack to accompany nightfall on every island, whilst luminous, starlit skies bring anticipation of the day to come. Whether you are looking for a family holiday, romantic honeymoon or an island hopping itinerary, a luxury holiday to the Seychelles is a journey of natural discovery that will captivate you with its enchanting landscape.

Located just south of the equator the Seychelles experiences a tropical climate with temperatures ranging from 24°C and 32°C making it the perfect destination year round. May to September the cooling southeast tradewinds blow, bringing livelier seas and the possibility of seaweed. October to April bring the warm northwest tradewinds which sees an increase in temperatures and humidity.
