Phuket / The Slate

Lapped by the warm waters of the Andaman Sea, the property sits on the northern shore of Phuket where it merges into a backdrop of lush rainforest. Phuket’s former glory as a tin mining centre is reflected in the quirky design. Accommodation include elegantly appointed Suites and Pool Suites; eight Pool Villas offer the epitome of luxury living. Multifarious dining options range from traditional Thai specialities at Black Ginger – reached by boat – to themed buffets at the Tin Mine. There is also a snooker bar and poolside café. Ascend the lantern-lit steps to the nest-like Coqoon spa hidden amongst the Banyan trees, or soak up the sun on the easily accessible beach. Two of the resort’s three swimming pools are adult only; further attractions include a kids’ club and Thai cooking school.

Relaxation Redefined

Striking, bold and laced with historic detail, the resort was designed by architect Bill Bensley, known for infusing properties with soul and surprises. At Coqoon Spa, Bensley takes the concept of being cocooned rather literally with the Nest, an impressive wicker structure hung from a giant banyan tree.

Sunrise and sunset

At sunrise, for a spiritual start to the day, cycle down to the local 200 year old temple and join the monks as they perform their morning rituals. At sunset, head to the markets to discover the hubs as daylight dims and vendors, farmers and local chefs converge under city lights.

Learn from the experts

For those looking to pick up a new skill, join Moo’s Kitchen cooking classes to learn about the complex interplay of the five fundamental taste senses of Thai cuisine or join a tropical floral art lesson with specially trained florists at the dedicated flower gallery.

Little Sommelier Training

Although your children will be too young to try some of the finest wines in the resort, they are never too young to perfect their senses - armed with nothing but blindfolds and tasting straws, The Slate's resident Sommelier Davide Allegri will guide your little ones with the help of fruits, vegetables and juices, helping them to pick out particular tastes and sensations.

When is the best time to visit Thailand?

Thailand is generally very hot and humid with distinct dry and rainy seasons. The best time to visit most resorts, including Phuket, Krabi, Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai, is from November to March, with the exception of Koh Samui which is best visited from December to August. However, with ever-changing weather patterns and excellent offers, it is well worth considering a holiday during the shoulder seasons
