As unique as it is transient, the Icehotel promises an unforgettable stay. Standing 200 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle it is created afresh each year by international artists - entirely hewn from ice and snow with no two Icehotels ever the same. From mid December to mid April, guests can spend one night in the Icehotel - the temperature remaining between -5 and -8 degrees - with further nights in the cosily contemporary Kaamos rooms or chalets. Glistening ice sculptures line pillared hallways hung with ice chandeliers, whilst individually themed Art Suites feature ice furnishings and ice beds topped with thermal sleeping bags laid on reindeer skins. Dine from bowls of crystal-clear ice in the restaurant, or feast in more historical surroundings at the Old Homestead restaurant overlooking the Torne River. Don’t miss the colourful cocktails at the “Icebar by Icehotel”. Exhilarating winter activities include husky sledding, snowmobiling, reindeer encounters, Northern Lights tours and ice sculpting. The opportunity to design your own bespoke ice suite in conjunction with an Icehotel designer offers a truly exclusive experience.
Redesigned from scratch each year, this ephemeral ice structure is perfect for families with older children; the adventure begins at the airport with a dog sled ride across virgin forest to the hotel. Spend a night sleeping in cosy sleeping bags on reindeer skins in the Icehotel itself before heading to a Nordic cabin. Enjoy snowmobiling in search of the Northern Lights and snowshoeing across the icy tundra. Teenagers can attend an ice sculpting class, whilst younger children will be entranced by a visit to a Sami reindeer camp.
