Fly to Colombo from London Heathrow. Take a short drive in your transport vehicle to The Wallawwa, Kotugoda - a beautifully renovated country house hotel set amongst tropical gardens where you will spend the night. (BB)
The Wallawwa
Your transfer vehicle will transport you to Sigiriya, where you will spend three nights at the luxurious Jetwing Vil Uyana. On route you will have the opportunity to either stop at Saruketha Restaurant for a refreshing cup of tea, or visit the Selyn Handloom Factory in Kurunegala. In the late afternoon, just before sunset, you will enjoy the Kep Ela Elephant Experience, taking part in the ritual of feeding and bathing domestic Sri Lankan elephants at Kandalama Tank. After a blissful nights sleep, you will visit Polonnaruwa - the second most ancient of Sri Lanka’s kingdoms - by Peugot 504, before taking lunch at the Priyamali Gedara, a local farmer's house. Day four brings with it a visit to the Minneriya National Park, where an afternoon jeep safari will guide you through the natural habitats. (BB)
Jetwing Vil Uyana
Wake early to climb Sigiriya Rock Fortress by 8am. On your ascent, you can learn all about the many myths and legends associated with Sigiriya, before exploring the royal palace ruin at the summit of the rock. Once the descent is done, and refreshments have been enjoyed, your transfer to the central highlands of the island will begin. Your accommodation for the next two nights is The Kandy House. Enjoy tea with local hermit artist Raju Michael, before returning to the hotel for dinner. After breakfast, take a tuk tuk ride to visit the Gadaladeniya Temple, followed by a walk towards Lankathilake temple, ending the morning with a visit to a traditional Kandyan Dance School. After lunch, spend your afternoon exploring the Kandy Markets. (BB)
The Kandy House
Before embarking on a scenic train ride from Kandy to Colombo, the morning is yours to spend as you wish. On arrival at Colombo Fort, your guide will collect you and drive you through beautiful landscapes to the South Coast of the island. It is here, at the majestic Fortress Resort & Spa, that you will spend your final four nights in Sri Lanka. Enjoy the sun kissed beaches of Koggala, or book a relaxing SPA treatment at the hotel. An afternoon tour around the Galle Fort, one of Sri Lanka's most beloved UNESCO World Heritage Sites, will reveal more about Sri Lanka's history, colonial culture and daily life. Sundowners will follow at the iconic Amangalla, a perfect relaxing end to the day. The remaining days can be taken at leisure, with additional tours and activities available should you wish to experience more.
