Condé Nast Traveller's Michelle Jana Chan recently reviewed one of the newest luxury islands to open to guests in the Maldives. Below we take a look at what she had to say.

"This is absolutely the new place to stay in the Maldives" - Michelle Jana Chan, Condé Nast Traveller.

As showcased in the December 2016 issue of Condé Nast Traveller, Soneva Jani is already being crowned as the superlative new hotspot of the Maldives and it's easy to see why. Designed by Soneva co-founder Eva Shivdasani, the light and airy accommodations appear to blend seamlessly with the outdoors, perfectly complementing the pristine and unscathed beauty of Medhufaru Island.

Aerial View of Villas

"The scale of the villas may be extraordinary, but everything else about this place is understated. It's not about name architects, tricksy interior design or superstar chefs, just simple open-plan, open-air living. Rooms built in renewable plantation wood sprawl in great sweeping curves, each a charming jumble of pitched roofs and rondavels with fairytale turrets to climb up for the views and ladders from which to climb directly down from decks into the Indian Ocean".

Living Area

Home to a former farm for ten years, the island still flourishes with flora and greenery, providing fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs for the resort's kitchen. A leisurely bicycle ride around the island is one of the best ways to experience the beauty of the resort and discover some of its unique highlights, including a Labyrinth maze, lakes and secluded beach spots. As if Soneva Jani didn't sound enthralling enough, it is also home to an overwater Observatory - the first of its kind in the Maldives - which gives you the opportunity to view the starry night sky in the most sublime of locations.
