Set in a private concession in Matusadona National Park on the shores of Lake Kariba, this sister camp to The Hide in Hwange has eight individual tented suites. Decorated with modern African influences, each is en suite with an indoor bathroom, romantic outdoor shower and bath tub with a view. Mealtimes are a relaxed affair in the dining room, on the deck overlooking the lake or on the private beach. Activities include game viewing by boat and vehicle, guided walks, fishing safaris and birdwatching. Over 350 species of birds have been identified in the area, including the African fish eagle whose evocative call has come to symbolise the sound of Lake Kariba.
The dry winter months between May and October are generally the best months for game viewing as the grass is lower, the vegetation less dense and the animals are driven to the waterholes to quench their thirst. Temperatures are hot during the day but can drop significantly at night, even falling below zero in Hwange. Daytime temperatures in October can be exceptionally high. The rainy season is usually from December to March, with beautiful, green landscapes. Victoria Falls are at their most dramatic from March to May, though the mist created by such a volume of water can obscure the views.
