In the far north of Botswana, bordering the Chobe River, the back-to-nature rustic charm of African bush camping has been combined with modern comforts such as flush toilets and hot bucket showers to create a camp quite like no other. In addition to five deluxe safari tents with en suite bathrooms, there are guest areas for dining, pre-dinner drinks or simply sitting back with a good book before the next thrilling safari sets out. Chobe National Park is famed for its high concentration of elephants, large herds of buffalo and sightings of the puku and Chobe bushbuck — not encountered anywhere else in Botswana. Lechwe, blue wildebeest, rafts of hippo and fearsome Nile crocodiles also abound. In addition to morning and evening game drives, photographic river cruises accompanied by a professional photographer are a popular way to experience the Chobe River.
The best time to visit Botswana for game viewing in the delta areas is during the dry winter season from April to October when animals are drawn to water sources. Days are warm and sunny although nights can drop below freezing – in October temperatures can be particularly hot. The Okavango area tends to be more moderate than the Kalahari where seasonal differences are more extreme and activities vary according to wet (November – March) and dry (April – October) seasons.
