Luxury Travel: All-time Favourites

Gina Riley, Sales Consultant at Carrier

I have been visiting Canada for over 20 years, and for me, it is the only place that perfectly combines cosmopolitan living with the picturesque rush of vast mountain peaks, lush forests and an abundance of unforgettable wildlife. As a nature enthusiast, I love the exclusivity of Sonora. Only accessible by sea or air, I have spent many days venturing through rugged woodland grizzly bear spotting, and kayaking across the serene waters of Surge Narrows Marine Park. There is no better city to complement this outdoor vibe than Vancouver, where a bike ride through the greens of Stanley Park promise views of the North Shore Mountains and the string of hidden beaches are ideal for a romantic picnic. For a taste explosion, Grandville Island is a food haven of fresh seafood, middle-eastern treasures and the best honey-dipped doughnut I have ever tasted. And, if you’re still seeking thrills, zip-lining across the Kennedy River or surfing the swells of Chesterman Beach are my picks when staying in or passing through Tofino.

Hike, ski, cycle, cruise or simply stand and savour; however you choose to experience Canada’s diverse geography, it’ll always be spectacular. The endless fir tree forests and snow-capped mountains of the Rockies and beyond are made for exploration and adventure; snow revellers can take to the slopes at Mont Tremblant, enjoy husky-sledding in Quebec or climb the frozen waterfalls in Whistler. In warmer climes, a hike through ancient cedar forests to see the Kermode bear first-hand will have your adrenaline rushing, whilst a moonlit canoe expedition in Southern Ontario is simply a tranquil experience. Flourishing wildlife can be seen in every province; journey along the Icefield Parkway to capture deer and black bears on camera or venture to Grouse Mountain to visit a grizzly bear orphanage. One of the best ways to experience Canada’s remarkable terrain is aboard the Rocky Mountaineer train, which takes on several routes of equal appeal. Beyond the mirror-flat mountain lakes and thriving ecosystems, Canada is also a land of cosmopolitan delights. From the capital Ottawa to charming Quebec City, Canada’s metropolises are steeped in rich history and stately architecture. Capture the grand, neo-Gothic stature of Parliament Hill as you cruise along the Ottawa River, mirrored by kilometres of green cycle paths. The largest of Canada’s cities, French-speaking Quebec City offers a delightful blend of old cobblestone streets and modern pleasures; enjoy a stay at the famous Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac, savour a gourmet food tour of charcuterie and scallops in St-Roch or make yourself comfortable in the ‘boites à chansons’ and alternative lounge bars in rue St-Jean. An artsy, more eclectic vibe exists in Toronto, Ontario, where you can discover a wealth of trendy nightspots; we recommend exploring the Art Gallery of Ontario and Graffiti Alley, before witnessing the famous CN Tower illuminated at night.
