Comprising nine spacious tents, this premier camp lies in the private Mombo concession on Chief’s Island, an area renowned for its large concentration of predators and plains game, arguably the best in Africa. Prolific game can often be viewed directly from the private thatched salas of the spacious tents, raised to maximise views over the plains. Built beneath the shade of tall trees, each elegantly furnished tent features polished parquet floors, a long veranda and indoor and outdoor showers. Game drives explore the savannah and floodplain, where big cats and black and white rhino are regularly spotted. Twenty minutes from the camp lies a hide from which birds and mammals can be photographed. Excellent amenities include two plunge pools, gym and game viewing hide. Due to its popularity early booking is essential.
The best time to visit Botswana for game viewing in the delta areas is during the dry winter season from April to October when animals are drawn to water sources. Days are warm and sunny although nights can drop below freezing – in October temperatures can be particularly hot. The Okavango area tends to be more moderate than the Kalahari where seasonal differences are more extreme and activities vary according to wet (November – March) and dry (April – October) seasons.
