The Selinda Reserve is characterised by game-rich floodplains - a setting chosen for many National Geographic wildlife films. It is here, on the Selinda spillway which links the Okavango Delta with the Linyanti swamps, that Great Plains Conservation have created the quintessential safari camp experience. Each of Selinda’s seven spacious canvas tents is shaded with thatch roofing and raised on wooden decks, with breathtaking views across the palm-studded floodplains. There is also a two bedroom family tent making it a perfect base for a family safari. In the cool and shady main area, guests can dine in relaxed style and enjoy drinks with a view in the bar. Lion, cheetah, leopard and African wild dog abound in the reserve - exhilarating game drives being accompanied by further activities such as boating, walking safaris and fly fishing. A plunge pool provides the opportunity for a cooling dip later.
The best time to visit Botswana for game viewing in the delta areas is during the dry winter season from April to October when animals are drawn to water sources. Days are warm and sunny although nights can drop below freezing – in October temperatures can be particularly hot. The Okavango area tends to be more moderate than the Kalahari where seasonal differences are more extreme and activities vary according to wet (November – March) and dry (April – October) seasons.
