Close to the historic town of George on the Garden Route, Fancourt Hotel is a favourite getaway for golfing enthusiasts whilst also providing a luxurious stay for those who simply want to relax or explore the scenic surroundings. The property, which is set against the beautiful backdrop of the Outeniqua Mountains, offers large, contemporary rooms with a good-sized family living space and an abundance of excellent amenities including four on-site restaurants. Overlooking the fairways, Monet’s specialises in delicious bistro fare, while La Cantina satisfies those in the mood for Mediterranean. Henry White’s is the gastronome’s choice; the Club House serves American favourites by the 18th green. The leisure centre has an indoor heated family pool and cinema. Golfers can tackle the twists and turns of two championship parklands courses and enjoy access to private golf club, The Links. There is also a golf academy with tuition for all levels. Non golfers can unwind in the Roman bath and tepidarium, or visit the nearby Botanical Gardens.
A year round destination, but expect cooler weather in the Eastern and Western Capes during winter, between June and August. Mpumalanga stays warm year round with temperatures, humidity and rainfall all increasing in the summer months between October and March. The whales return to the waters around Hermanus from July to November, and the spring months of August and September are particularly colourful along the Garden Route. The prime time for game viewing is generally the drier winter and spring months from April to September when animals frequent the waterholes. During the wetter summer months between October and March, animals can still be viewed but are more widely dispersed – from December to February there may be more sightings of newborn animals.
