A pioneer of conservation in the Seychelles, Frégate Island Private is home to the Seychelles Magpie Robin. Thirty years ago, it was the second rarest bird in the world, now thanks to the efforts of the on-island team, the ground-nesting species has been saved from extinction.
The white sandy beaches of Frégate Island Private also provide a vital nesting habitat for the endangered Hawksbill and Green Turtles. Every nesting season, staff safeguard several hundred nests - you may have the chance to witness first-hand one of nature's true miracles; the site of a female laying her eggs on the shore.
Take a nature walk with one of the resident ecologists through lush vegetation up to the summit of Mount Signal, the highest point on the island and learn about the restored rare woodland and almost extinct species of native flora that are now beginning to flourish.
Frégate Island Private has a genuine commitment to preservation and strives to be a self-sufficient resort - fruit and vegetables are grown in organic gardens and sea water is distilled and distributed in glass bottles. The spa also uses organic products from its own apothecary in holistic treatments.
Located just south of the equator the Seychelles experiences a tropical climate with temperatures ranging from 24°C and 32°C making it the perfect destination year round. May to September the cooling southeast tradewinds blow, bringing livelier seas and the possibility of seaweed. October to April bring the warm northwest tradewinds which sees an increase in temperatures and humidity. All but the southernmost islands fall outside the cyclone belt with January and February being the wettest months – rainfall is in short sharp intervals.
