According to legend, Buddha smiled when he rested for a day in Luang Prabang, prophesying that it would become a rich and powerful city; in 1995 it was placed on the UNESCO World Heritage list. This is the setting for the Amantaka resort, set beside mystical Mount Phousi below the stunning Wat Chom temple, this fabulous Aman Resort is within walking distance of Luang Prabang’s quaint boutiques and bakeries as well as riverside viewpoints along the Mekong River. Within the resort are lofty French colonial-style pavilions surrounded by shady verandas – the elegantly appointed Suites, Pool Suites and Amantaka Suites encircling a spacious courtyard. Tantalising Lao specialities can be enjoyed in the dining room or pool terrace. The main pool is flanked by a sensuous Aman Spa, gymnasium and yoga meditation studio, while guests can browse for decorative Laotian gifts and handicrafts in the Boutique Pavilion.
Laos is best visited from November to February when there is least rainfall and temperatures are comfortable. However the hot season from March to May and the early rainy season from June to July is also a good time to visit northern Laos.
